I made an effort to get out of the house and travel to Cottesloe beach today for the 15th Sculptures by the sea today.

It's a Saturday afternoon, I had a few hours to spare, and thought I would make the effort and go to see the sculptures in person, rather than just viewing them through Facebook.

“Cottesloe Beach is transformed once a year in March into a sculpture park with over 70 works from local and international artists.”

So I get to Cottesloe and I remember finding a parking spot in the middle of the afternoon is like finding your keys when you're in a rush, impossible. But, after a lot of circling like a vulture around it's prey, I found a parking space, 1km from the exhibition.

The sculptures

I'm not what you would call a modern art lover. Sculptures of sweet packets and what looks like rubbish on the floor doesn't get me exited about spending time in the heat and sand. Having said that there were some great exhibits which I would not mind having minutes of for my backyard or around the house. These are my own opinion, but I split them into the best, the worst and the .... as I didn't want to go full out and call them ugly. I also had a few WTF moments, such as the Stargate, The thunderdome and The Tripods.

The Good

I'm not sure why I like it, but it does have something to do with the big nose, and the bright colours and the nice shiny head.

The "is it?"

I've found the ship that pepper pig came in, now if we can only get her back into it!

Here lays the remains of those who got dragged to the beach against their own will, or those who made it thus far through the sculptures.

When I first saw this, I thought two things. Is this an advert for a roofing company, or is this planet of the apes?

The Bad

ree

Here is a silver sperm? Not really sure what this is supposed to represent, but I just don't get it.

Art is truely subjective, and what's great to me can be weird to someone else, that's the best thing about art, its in the eye of the beholder. Whether you like it, hate it or are indifferent, I think you should spend sometime here admiring the time and effort that these artists have made to give us something to talk about.

Here is a brief video for you to enjoy, despise or simply ignore, the choice is yours!

I've worked in corporate, not for profits and listed companies for 25 years.  This left me very little time to explore where I live.  I thought it would be beneficial to look around at where I live and see what there is to see.
